The second match on Wednesday 26th October will see New Zealand play against Afghanistan in another Group 1 match again at the MCG.
New Zealand put on arguably the best all-round display in their first match of the tournament, as they beat hosts and reigning champions Australia by a mammoth 89 runs. Devon Conway was the star of the show with 92 off 58 balls, but the onslaught was start by his opening partner Finn Allen who smacked 42 off 16. The Kiwi bowlers shared the wickets and were helped by some brilliant catching in the field.
The Kiwis weren’t viewed as title contenders before the tournament but after that victory have well and truly announced themselves.
Afghanistan’s first outing of the tournament saw them beaten by one of the pre-tournament favourites, England, as they lost by 5 wickets. Unfortunately, it won’t get any easier for them as they come up against the Black Caps.
Expect the Kiwis to win convincingly and go two from two to start their 2022 World Cup campaign.
