The second match on Friday 4th October sees Australia play against Afghanistan again at the Adelaide Oval.
Australia’s net run rate is the lowest out of themselves, New Zealand, and England, so they will need a big win in order to maximise their chances of reaching the semi-final. Arguably against winless Afghanistan, they will have their best possible chance to do so.
Afghanistan has, unfortunately, had a very interrupted tournament with two of their four matches being rained off. But in their completed matches, they have not had much to shout about with convincing losses against England and Sri Lanka.
Australia was able to put in a good performance against Ireland but are now sweating on the fitness of captain Aaron Finch, batsmen Tim David, and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who also suffered hamstring injuries.
Despite these injury worries, Australia still has extremely capable replacements in Cameron Green and Steve Smith. Expect Australia to be too strong for Afghanistan and for Australia to put in a dominant display, especially with the bat, in order to increase their net run rate.
